About the Calgary City Teachers’ Convention Association (CCTCA)
Acknowledgement of Traditional Lands
The Alberta Teachers’ Association respectfully acknowledges that we are located on Treaty 7 territory—the travelling route, gathering place and meeting grounds for Indigenous Peoples, including the Siksikaitsitapi, comprised of the Siksika, Kainai, Piikani, Amskapi Piikani First Nations; the Tsuut’ina First Nation; and the Îyârhe Nakoda, including the Chiniki, Bearspaw and Goodstoney First Nations, Métis Otipemisiwak and Esikisimu Nunangat, whose histories, languages, cultures and traditions continue to influence our vibrant community. We are grateful for the traditional Knowledge Keepers and Elders who are still with us today and those who have gone before us. We recognize the land as an act of reconciliation and gratitude to those whose territory we reside on or are visiting.
Mission and Purpose
of the CCTCA
Teachers’ conventions were established through legislation for the purpose of providing teachers the opportunity to engage in ongoing learning to enhance their professional skills on an annual basis.
The CCTCA provides opportunities for teachers to:
- explore their teaching practice
- review their changing roles in the school
- network with peers
- become aware of innovations in teaching
- participate in a discussion of emerging trends, challenges and issues
- participate in professional development
- renew commitment to lifelong learning
Committee Members
The Calgary City Teachers’ Convention Association (CCTCA) is made up of teacher-members from Calgary’s two public school boards. Teachers from ATA Locals 38 (Calgary Board of Education teachers) and 55 (Calgary Catholic School District teachers) elect members to sit on the CCTCA for three year terms.
